Charles (Chuck) Mortensen Ramsey

Charles (Chuck) Mortensen Ramsey died October 14, 2009, in Farmington, NM. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, May 2, 1948, and grew up in Los Alamos, NM. He is preceded in death by his parents Ross B. and Lola M. Ramsey, his wife Patti McCrary Ramsey, and his older brother Scott A. Ramsey. He is survived by his son Zachary C. Ramsey, his brother Ross L. Ramsey, his sisters-in-law Christine and Linda Ramsey, his brother-in-law Ray Ayres, and sister-in-law Diane Ayres; and mother-in-law June McCrary. Charles obtained his B.A. degree in English literature from UNM, his M.A. in English Education from NMSU, and an M.F.A. in Technical Theater from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He began his teaching career in Las Cruces where he was one of the several founders of the first Alternative High School for that district. He was also president of the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Las Cruces in its formative years. After a brief time in Maine, he returned to teach drama at Farmington High School. He wrote two award winning one act plays, and earned numerous awards for his scene design. He produced, directed and designed several productions for the Theater Ensemble Arts organization in Farmington. Charles played string bass with the Albuquerque Symphony and, for many years, continued to play string bass and bass guitar with groups in Las Cruces and San Juan County. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Juvenile Diabetic Society would be greatly appreciated. The care of Charles has been entrusted to: Alternative Choice Cremation and Funeral Services, 804 N.
