Charles E. DeBettignies passed away on December 30, 2013. Chuck was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 23, 1929. Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence E. DeBettignies; mother, Winifred R. DeWitt; sister, Barbara Brown; and his wife of 49 years, Joan DeBettignies. Chuck is survived by his sister, Marilyn Pilkington and husband, Kenneth; son, Robert W. DeBettignies and wife, Beatrice; granddaughters, Savannah M. and Montoya R.; daughter, Lisa A. Shoaff and husband, Charles C. Shoaff, Jr.; grandson, Andrew J. Shoaff; and son, Kenneth L. DeBettignies, all of Albuquerque. Chuck attended University of Illinois at Chicago but his education was postponed when he was called for military duty. After completing his active duty in the Army, Chuck moved to Albuquerque to attend University of New Mexico, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Chuck worked for the Corps of Engineers until he retired in 1986. Chuck was a loving husband, father, grandfather and devoted friend and mentor to many. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, January 10, 2014 at Daniels Funeral Home at 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE, with Rosary to be recited at 7 PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 12 Noon at Risen Savior Catholic Church, 7701 Wyoming Blvd NE. Inurnment with military honors will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Monday, January 13, 2014.
