Palmer, Charles Arthur II Born Aug. 8, 1944, in Las Cruces, NM, to Charles Arthur and Ann Barela Palmer, passed away unexpectedly at his Corrales home on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. Chuck attended the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Santa Fe and earned a degree in Police Science from New Mexico State University. He served as a Lieutenant in the Navy in Vietnam and spent his career as a Special Agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. In 1974, he married Ellen Curtis of Santa Fe. Chuck was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and Subic Bay, Philippines, before settling in Burke, VA, where he raised his children and was active in their sports and music programs. He was stationed at the Washington, D.C., Navy Yard, where he specialized in technology services. Chuck retired in 1994 after 26 years of federal service and he and Ellen returned to New Mexico. In retirement, Chuck conducted background investigations and worked in security at Sierra Peaks. He was an avid Ham radio operator and enjoyed restoring antique radios and building and flying model airplanes. He belonged to several local radio and civic groups, including the Upper Rio Radio Club, the New Mexico Radio Collectors� Club, the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. Chuck and Ellen were active members of San Ysidro Parish, and Chuck was very involved with various community groups in Corrales. He is survived by his lovife, Wife; son, Michael, and fianc�e, Lisa Wallace and grandson, Christopher, of Manassas, VA; daughter, Betsy Gontarek and husband Jeffrey of Alexandria, VA; three brothers, Richard and wife Carol of Belen, NM, Jim of Albuquerque, and David and wife Karen of Albuquerque; and several nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm, Monday, May 5, 2014, with the Funeral Mass being celebrated at 10:00 am, Tuesday, May 6, 2014 both at San Ysidro Catholic Church, Corrales, NM. A reception will be held at the church immediately follow the Mass. Interment will follow at 2:15 pm, at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 North Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe, NM. Pallbearers will be his brothers, Richard Palmer, Jim Palmer, David Palmer, Albert Carbajal, Daniel Roybal and Lee Mahoney. Donations may be made in Charles' honor to the Wounded Warrior Project.
