Charles (Russ) Spicher was born in Albuquerque, NM to Charles & Sue Spicher. He graduated from New Mexico State University & then received a master’s degree from Pepperdine University.
Russ went on the serve his country in the United States Air Force in Vietnam, Germany, Hawaii & several bases in the continental US. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Russ didn’t let retirement stop his community service. He was active in the VFW Post 401, Crime Stoppers USA, Citizens Police Academy, and served at the Veteran’s Memorial. Russ was also a board member of A Peaceful Habitation organization, member of Masonic lodge #6 and Ballut Abyad Shrine.
Russ was an active member of Hoffmantown church, but his greatest joy was traveling to Uganda to serve the people through AMG International (Advancing the Ministry of the Gospel). He was able to make seven trips to Uganda assisting in building an orphanage & school, visiting homes and prisons then helping in the medical clinic at the College of Nursing and Midwifery with his wife Mary.
Russ is survived by his wife, Mary, sister Brenda Risenhoover (Fort Worth Tx); daughter Kim Shurley(Billy) (Little Rock, AR); sons Aaron Johnson (Linda) & Ian Spicher(Sarah) of Albuquerque. Russ and Mary have four grandchildren (Morgan Gardner, Trey & Madelyn Shurley, Dahlia Spicher) and three great- grandchildren ( Delilah, Cheyenne and Mia) plus several nieces & nephews.
A celebration of Russ’s life will be held on Tuesday May 21st at 10AM at Hoffmantown Church. Internment will be in the National Cemetery in Sante Fe, New Mexico
