Chester "Hawk" Fuller Sr., passed away on November 6, 2023, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born on September 20, 1950, in Bolton, Mississippi to parents Erma Mae Fuller and Will Murray.
Chester graduated from John Marshall High School in 1969 in Chicago, Illinois where to this day people still talk about his basketball skills. He then went on to earn a scholarship to play basketball at Independence Community College in Kansas from 1969-1971, where he averaged 30 points a game, due to his outstanding play he was inducted into the junior college basketball hall of fame. He then received a basketball scholarship to attend the University of New Mexico in 1971, where he had an outstanding collegiate basketball career and obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975.
Chester had a fulfilling career at the City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation, where he dedicated 26 years of his life. After his retirement from the City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation he had a second career with the Albuquerque Public Schools as an educational assistant for 10 years.
Chester found joy in various hobbies and interests. He took great pleasure in coaching youth basketball, fishing, swimming, and traveling.
Chester is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, of 46 years, Annie Lorraine Fuller; son, Lamar Maurice Fuller; father, Will Murray; and grandparents Ella and Andrew Fuller. Left to cherish his memory are his mother Erma Mae Jenkins, sons Chester Fuller Jr. (Senait Fuller) and Anthony Fuller; brother Charles Atkinson; grandchildren Isaiah Fuller, Iyanah Fuller, Jeremiah James Santiago, Avery Fuller, Payton Fuller, Olivia Fuller, Harmoni Keyes, and Nevyna Fuller.
Services to honor Chester's life will be held on November 15th at Daniels Family Funeral Services - Wyoming Chapel located at 7601 Wyoming Blvd in Albuquerque. The visitation will begin at 10:30 AM followed by the funeral service at noon. Afterward, Chester will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery located at 7999 Wyoming Blvd NE.
The burial will then be followed by a reception that will be held back at the funeral home.
