Chico Hiawatha Bridges

October 9, 1942 — June 21, 2009

Chico Hiawatha Bridges Oct. 9, 1942 - June 20, 2009 Chico Hiawatha Bridges, 66, of Farmington, went to meet his Lord on Saturday, June 20, 2009, after a valiant battle fought since January of 2009. He left this life peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. The last voice he heard was his daughter, Angel, reading the 23rd Psalm. Chico is survived by Sue Helen, his wife of 21 years; and their children, Ashton, Colten and Angel. He is also survived by his sister, LauraJean; brother, Willard Star; and by his extended family. Chico was born Oct. 9, 1942, in California. He also lived in Oklahoma, Texas and Arizona. While a young man, Chico lived an adventurous life, traveling to various states and working. Some of his jobs were operating heavy equipment, oil well work, truck driver and mechanic, farm worker and eventually, a farm foreman. Chico was also an accomplished gardener and beekeeper. Chico married Sue Helen on Valentine's Day, 1988. The couple was blessed with a son, Ashton, before moving to Farmington in 1993. After settling, the family grew to include Colten and Angel. Besides his devotion to his family, Chico was active in his church. He also enjoyed the sports his children were involved in. He served on the board of Head Start, and also did volunteer work in the community, regularly helping elderly neighbors and visiting the nursing homes. Chico and his family were blessed with his new heart in November 2005. They enjoyed this precious gift that gave them three beautiful years to go to Disneyland, attend ball games, go hiking and camping, worship as a family and enjoy stories and more love, laughter and sweet memories. One fond memory was when Chico and Sue Helen won the 2008 KPCL Valentine's Day Contest. The prizes included a night at La Quinta Inn, a diamond necklace, two-dozen roses and a ride in a limo, and wonderful memories that will never be forgotten. Food and fellowship at Bloomfield Assembly of God Church will follow the graveside services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St., Farmington, NM 87401. Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home 103 E.
