Clarence Ray"" Neeley

August 19, 1919 — January 21, 2010

Clarence Raymond "Ray" Neeley, 90, of Farmington, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, in Bloomfield. Ray was born Aug. 19, 1919, to Charles Brown Neeley and Anna Mae Flesher Neeley, at their home in Mancos, Colo. Ray graduated from Mancos High School. He married Myrtle Neeley on May 4, 1940, in Farmington. To this union were born three children: Karen Nickels, Charles Neeley and Dennis Neeley. All three children graduated from Farmington High School. Ray was in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He served in the Asiatic Pacific - Philippine Liberation. In 1947, Ray and Myrtle moved to Durango, Colo., and, in 1951, the family moved to Farmington. Ray was a Four Corners businessman. He was a partner in Mallett Motor Company in Mancos, a partner in Erickson Pontiac in Farmington, a partner in Ross & Neeley Sporting Goods in Farmington and the owner of Ray Neeley Specialties in Farmington. He retired in 1984. He was preceded in death in 1995, by his wife, Myrtle; and in 1991, by his daughter, Karen Nickels. Ray is survived by his sons, Dennis Neeley of Durango and Charles Neeley and wife, Virginia Neeley, of Farmington; sister, Winifred Mallet of Rifle, Colo.; grandchildren, Shawn Neeley and Amanda Neeley of Farmington, Marisha Neeley of Jonesboro, Ark., Larry Gilland of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Steve Gilland of Hazelgreen, Ala., Bill Gilland of Memphis, Tenn.; and great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Gilland, Alex Neeley, Adler Neeley and Cain McCall, all of Farmington.
