CLAYTON FISHER CHILDS, husband, “Dad”, “Poppy”, brother, cousin and friend to SO many, died today, August 23, 2020 just shy of his 74th birthday.
He fought courageously for almost 3 years against an awful cancer called Multiple Myeloma. We had never heard of MM when he was diagnosed but two stem cell transplants, a stroke, two heart attacks and countless chemotherapies later, he STILL survived to live another day. He was a strong man that gave to so many unconditionally, asked for little and died by my side, my forever love. I will miss him everyday.
He is survived by his wife of over 31 years Robbie Childs, 3 “children” and 12 grandchildren all of Albuquerque, all of whom loved him and will miss him dearly. He also had an extended family of sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews, cousins and long-time friends he always considered family. Clay made friends easily and kept them for life, it was just a gift he had.
Clay graduated from Sandia High School, went to UNM putting himself through law school driving semi-trucks. He did a stent in the Army, was an avid racket-ball player for many years and a practicing attorney for more than 40 years. He loved to fish and he LOVED his dogs and Jasmine the cat.
He is preceded in death by his mother Jean Chisholm, father Richard “Arnie” Childs, brother Richard “Dick” Childs and brother Mark Childs.
Services will be held Friday, August 28, 2020 at Daniel’s Funeral Home at 7601 Wyoming NE beginning at 10:30 am. Burial to follow at Sandia Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be: Jon Tye, Jacob Rehren, Christopher Tye, Rigo Sorriano, Angel Sorriano and Richard Hillman.
In lieu of flowers please make any donation to the American Cancer Society OR the Animal Humane in his name and he would be eternally grateful.
