Concha Maese, 81, of Lemitar, NM, left this world unexpectedly on December 8, 2020. Concha was born in Chihuahua, Mexico to Manuel and Ester Jacquez. She was raised in Mesilla, NM where she met and wed Roberto Maese, her beloved spouse of many years. Concha was a one of a kind- she was courageous, tough, generous, loving, always finely dressed, with a renegade spirit. Concha and her family made friends throughout the state as they moved, living in Las Cruces, Roswell, Las Vegas, Espanola, and Estancia, before making the final move to Lemitar, NM in 1989. Her home was always to open to anyone. There has been a countless number of memories retold, cups of coffee, and meals eaten around Concha’s kitchen table. Anyone that met or spent time with Concha will undoubtedly have a fond memory of Concha and her positive impact in this world. She always had a story to share, a ‘dicho’, or numerous other ‘Conchita-isms’ and always something to feed you. Concha made the hottest unparalleled chile rellenos, fresh tortillas, and holiday biscochitos, had a formidable green thumb, tended her land with diligence, and cared for her animals, which she always had. These are just a few of the things she could do, yet some of the most important have been the work she put into her community and circle of family and friends. Concha was a volunteer at the Socorro Storehouse for decades; she enjoyed this work to no end and looked forward to her trips to town every Thursday. She was a devout Catholic, her faith steadfast. She loved helping those in need, meeting new people and hearing their stories. In all her small and large acts throughout her life, the core of Concha can be seen: She was a woman to be reckoned with whose strength, endurance, and tenacity was to be admired and her love, care, generosity is to be followed. Concha is preceded in death by her husband, Roberto Maese, brothers Benny Jacquez and Waldo Jacquez, parents Manuel and Ester Jacquez, and father and mother-in-law Estanislao and Anita Lucero Maese, brother-in-law Bernardo ‘Chicky’ Gonzales, nephew Jaime Maese, sister-in-law Elodia Gater. She is survived by: daughters Lucy Mallette and husband Tim Mallette of Las Vegas, NM, Mary Helen Pena of Albuquerque, NM; granddaughters Brecken Mallette of Albuquerque, NM, Deming Martinez and husband Adrian Martinez of Los Lunas, NM, grandson Elijah Pena of Albuquerque, NM, great granddaughter Riata Jane Martinez; sisters Olivia Barnard (Manuel) of Bosque Farms, NM, Gloria Jacquez of Las Cruces, NM, Teresa Jacquez of T or C, NM, sister-in-law Kim Smith of Thornton, CO; brother Toby Jacquez, brothers-in-law Edward Maese (Kina), Hector Maese (Elva), Armando Maese (Ida); all of Las Cruces, NM, Elias Maese (Lorraine) of Las Vegas, NM; sisters-in-law Minerva Maese, Esperanza Gomez (Efren) both of Albuquerque, NM; nieces Stacy, Heather, Gloria Mae, Ashley, Sylvia, Joanna, Jackie, Deana, Tina, Terri; nephews Gabe, Michael Phillip, Jaime, Benny II, Oscar, Marco, Tommy, Steve, Ronnie, Billy, Rick, all of their families; and numerous great nieces and nephews, God children, and dear friends. While her passing is a tragedy to all that knew her, Concha is now reunited and dancing with Roberto like they never missed a step.
