Gonzales, Cornelio R. Cornelio R. Gonzales, known to friends as CR left us on May 31, 2013 at age 83 to be reunited in Heaven with his brother Remigio Gonzales; sister, Lola Martinez; sons: Rudy, Sonny, Andy, and Joe; his grandchildren, Gregory Sena and Rachel Encinias. Born in Jemez Springs, NM, Cornelio, the son of Remigio and Felipita Gonzales, wed his wife of 65 years, Adela, daughter of the late Moises and Maria Sandoval and moved to Albuquerque in 1952 where he engaged in a long and distinguished career as a truck driver for what was then Springer Corporation. He was a proud lifelong member of the Teamsters Union. Cornelio and Adela embodied the spirit of Mi Casa es Su Casa, opening their home to relatives and never sending friends or strangers away hungry. A simple man, Cornelio acquired the skills needed to build their home in Albuquerques North Valley block by block. He also managed to grow some of the hottest jalapenos, which he would gladly share with guests in his home. Upon retiring from Springer in 1988, Cornelio and Adela fulfilled their dream of returning to Jemez Springs where, in his 60s, he built the basement upon which sits their home and an irrigation system which sustained his front yard, garden, and orchard. In retirement he could be seen driving in his 1972 ton Ford Pickup with his Rototiller for Hire sign or hauling his tools to build a concrete wall or slab for his Jemez neighbors. In the last few months of his life, despite declining health, CR managed to keep his many hummingbirds fed and to keep smiles on the faces of those around him. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Adela; his sisters Pauline Turner (Bruce), and Lucy Ramo (Ben); his children: Mike Gonzales (Flora), Margie Levine (Barry), Mary Encinias (Pat), Judy Gonzales (widow of Sonny); grandchildren: Isaaca Jordan, Lisa Gallegos, Alicia Gonzales, Moises Gonzales, Michelle Dixon, Amy Levine, Antoinette Gonzales, Gabriel Sena, and Patrick Encinias; great-grandchildren Mya, Nina, Angel, Heavenly, Isaiah, Joseph, Gavin, Jacob, Ashley, Annabelle, Gabrielle, and Lynnae. A Rosary will be recited and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Priest Catholic Church, Jemez Springs, NM followed by Interment and reception in Jemez Springs.
