Cynthia Dolores “Dee” Marquez

Born to Jose A. Marquez Jr. (deceased) and Corine Garcia Marquez in Las Vegas, New Mexico was called home to Our Lord. Cynthia’s brother, Albert D. Marquez, he proceeded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Maria Conchita Lucero, her son Dennis O. Marquez, daughter Kylene D. Mills, granddaughters, Anna Saiz-Johnston and Jesika Saiz, great grandchildren Raeleigh and Grady.

Dolores attended school in Las Vegas until her father was elected Sheriff of Guadalupe County and moved to Santa Rosa. During the oil boom of 1955 the family moved to Farmington where she graduated in 1959 from Farmington High School and then San Juan Business College with a secretarial certificate.

She was a member of the BETA SIGMA PHI Sorority Chapter 7021.

She was a very accomplished woman who worked as a secretary for Senator Joseph Montoya. She ran the Motor Vehicle Department in Farmington New Mexico until becoming Executive Secretary for Director Benny Sanchez in Santa Fe, New Mexico. While in Santa Fe she and her then husband Ben Ramsey were involved in the Santa Fe Fiesta Council. Dolores served as hostess to Governor Bruce King’s inauguration. She left government to work with Developer Harold Saueressig. She then pursued a career in the travel industry and became a Certified Travel Consultant which allowed her to see much of the world and visit the home of her ancestors in Spain several times. She enjoyed experiencing many cultures; but especially loved to help people plan their trips.

She was an active member and served on the New Mexico Hispanic Preservation League’s Board. She is a descendant of families of the Anton Chico Land Grant. Her ancestors were among the first Europeans to settle Nueva España (New Mexico and the Southwest) in 1598 and founders of the Villa de Alburquerque 1706. 

Cynthia resided at Bear Canyon Genesis Nursing home where she befriended many of the residents. Her gregarious nature will be missed by friends and family.
