Dale A. Carter, 70, of Bloomfield, passed peacefully on Thursday, November 27, 2008 after celebrating Thanksgiving with his family. Dale grew up in Quemado, New Mexico. After graduating high school, he joined the navy (seabees) and was stationed in California. While on shore leave in Santa Barbara, he met the love of his life, Eleanor, and they were soon married. Dale completed his Certificate of Apprenticeship in Bakersfield, CA. and worked for 40 years with the Operating Engineers as a heavy equipment operator. He belonged to Local 12 (California) and Local 953 (New Mexico). Dale loved to fish and hunt, and later developed a love for wood carving for which he received blue ribbons at the fair and college. He was an active member of the Three Rivers Sam RV Club which he thoroughly enjoyed. Dale is survived by his wife, Eleanor of 49 years, three children Roy Carter and wife Lindy of Bloomfield, Debbie Slaugh and husband Steve of Bloomfield and Lori Chavez and husband Ray of Farmington. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, Mandy Rich and husband Branden of Farmington, Bryan Carter of Bloomfield, Rusty Slaugh and wife Sabrina of Bloomfield, Jenifer Slaugh of Farmington, Rebecca Maldonado and husband Hector of Midland, Texas, Robert Slaugh of Bloomfield, Jessica Slaugh of Bloomfield, Anthony Gonzales and wife Melissa of Bloomfield, Erika Gonzales of Farmington, and Isaiah and Alex Chavez of Farmington, six great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Shane, Whitney, Joaquin, Cameron and Baby Aailyah (on the way).
