Daniel "Don" Edward

Mallak, "Don" Daniel Edward Sr. Age, 90, passed away Saturday March 16, 2013 after a long illness. He was born in Silver Lake, MN, in 1922. Don was a WWII veteran and received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Good Conduct medals. After his time in the service, he came to Albuquerque in 1949 and established Mallak Construction. After he retired, Don enjoyed fishing in Arizona with his son, Dan. During the last few years he enjoyed visits, courtesy of the Jackson family, to their Beulah retreat where he was able to fish and enjoy their beautiful property. Don was also active in the Men�s Senior Golf Association. He was proud of the fact he hit two "holes in one" during his golfing days. He enjoyed having breakfast almost daily with good friends at the Highland Senior Center. He is survived by his three children, Mary Jo Strong, Le Anne Lynch (Robert), Dan Mallak (Barbara); four grandchildren, Mike Jacobsen, Jeremy Mallak (Hilarie), Jayson Lynch, Taylor Mallak; great-grandson, Hayden Mallak. He was cheered by frequent calls and contact from his nieces and nephews in Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings and his son in law, Steven Strong. The family wishes to thank faithful friends Dot, Luane, Mary, Nell, Evelyn and Ron who visited and called over the last year. Our thanks go to New Life Assisted Living, Vince, Kim, Ruby, Chad, Brenda, Angelica and Jake for making Dad a part of your family. Special thanks to Sugar, the therapy dog who was Dad�s constant companion in the last months. We are also grateful to Amber Care Hospice, Elizabeth, Alex, Kara and the staff for their compassionate care of our Dad. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 7601 Wyoming NE, Albuquerque, NM. A Prayer Service will follow from 6:00 pm -7:00 pm, officiated by Reverend Tom Noesen. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming NE, Albuquerque, NM, officiated by Monsignor Richard Olona and Reverend Tim Martinez. Interment will follow at 2:15 pm at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to New Mexico BioPark Society, 903 Tenth St. SW, Albuquerque, NM, 87102.
