Darrell W. Felty, age 85, passed away January 25, 2002, in Albuquerque, NM. He was born June 19, 1936, to Wayne and Bertha (Miller) Felty in Stonefort, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Max Felty.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Bobbie J. Felty; his stepchildren, Gary (Barbara) Shepperd, and Debra (Wayne) Orechwa; his step-grandchildren: Erin Shepperd (Megan Manseau), Andrew Shepperd (Alli Goettling), Brian Randich, and Brett Randich; his nephews, Eric (Dani) Felty, Joe (Lisa) Felty.
Darrell graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1959 with a Bachelors Degree in Math; went on to New Mexico University in 1971 for his Masters Degree in Computer Science; then graduated from New Mexico Highlands University in 1979 with a Masters in Art.
Darrell proudly and honorably served his country four years in the U.S. Air Force as 2nd Lieutenant from 1960-1964. Following his time in the U.S. Air Force, he pursued a career in Civil Service at Holloman Air Force Base and Kirtland Air Force Base from 1964-1991.
He and Bobbie enjoyed traveling all over the U.S., Mexico, and Canada in their RV. They enjoyed cruises and made yearly trips to their vacation home in Branson, MO for over 25 years. Not to mention, Darrell was an avid golfer and had a hole-in-one at the Alamogordo Country Club. He was an avid reader and enjoyed getting together with friends to play games.
He joined the Greater Albuquerque Church Extension, Inc., where he was President; Digital Equipment Users Society (DECUS) as treasurer; and Siglo de Oro RV Club where they were members since 1994.
Darrell was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Albuquerque. He taught Seekers Sunday School for many years and ushered at most Church Services. Darrell always supported his church and numerous charities throughout his life.
The theme song for his life was “On the Road Again” by Willie Nelson.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 6200 Gibson Blvd SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106, on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be made to Christ United Methodist Church in Darrell’s name.
