David Walter Steinhaus

Steinhaus, David W. 94, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2014. David was born in Neillsville, Wisconsin, July 29, 1919. His service in the army began in 1945. David's military decorations included a Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Army Commendation Ribbon, and World War II Victory Ribbon. He was married to his loving wife, Jean, on January 1, 1949, in Hancock, Maryland. David earned a PhD in Physics at Johns Hopkins University in 1952. Dave's career included working at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a physicist. His research at the Lab from 1952 to 1978 included over 35 publications and many scientific talks. David's publications ranged from a book about Spectrochemical Analysis to papers about the Design and Operation of a New Photoelectric Comparator for Wavelength and Intensity Measurements of Spectra. He also served as a college professor at Johns Hopkins University, University of New Mexico, Rhodes College, and Memphis State University. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Laura Steinhaus and his sister Netta. David is survived by his wife, Jean; and their children, Eric and wife Connie, Kurt and wife Jo Beth, Bruce and wife Laurie, and Karl; grandchildren, Valerie, Kelly, Kent, Mara, Rosie and husband Ben, and Sarika.
