David Zagar

February 26, 1942 — January 16, 2019

David M. Zagar, age 76, after a graceful and heroic three year battle with cancer, passed away on January 16, 2019.

Born and raised in Kansas City, Dave found New Mexico a wild and beautiful place in 1963 when he moved to work at Sandia National Laboratories.

Working on and developing new breakthroughs on a wide range of projects during his 33 years at Sandia Labs was his fascination. Colleagues were amazed at the creative insight he brought to each project. His kind and gentle manner lead to him mentoring many who worked with him. These friendships still last today.

Dave’s love of flying motivated him to volunteer for the Civil Air Patrol, Search and Rescue. He was able to help others and do it while flying.

After retiring Dave and his wife, Peggy, moved to the East Mountain area. Watching all the wild animals was his happiness. He enjoyed feeding and studying the birds and wild rabbits. They knew he was a kind, gentle man and would often eat out of his opened hand.

He will be missed by all who admired him and loved him, a special man who still lives in our hearts.
