Dean Marcus Lucero

Our beloved Dean Marcus Lucero was born August 26, 1970 and passed away September 29, 2019. Son of John and Maria Conchita Lucero. He is survived by his son Alex Sloan, sister Lynne Lucero Arendall and her husband Michael, grandmother Corine Marquez and aunt Cynthia Marquez. Dean’s wife Teri (Sloan) preceded him in death.

Dean earned his Eagle Scout at an early age, and enjoyed his Boy Scout experiences at Philmont Boy Scout World Center. During his youth he participated in the New Mexico Trials Association, winning many motorcycle trophies in various divisions. He learned to snow ski at an early age and skied with his family for many years. The family enjoyed traveling together to several European and Caribbean countries and also to many destinations in the United States. Dean was proud of his Spanish heritage which dates back to the First European Settlers in 1598. He and his family carried surname banners in the Villa de Albuquerque’s Founders Day celebrations. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution honoring his ancestor’s role in the War of Independence.

He loved memories of spending time at his grandfather Jose Marquez’s ranch located on the Anton Chico Land Grant near Milagro, NM. He spent several weeks there in the summers, with his sister and cousins, exploring and forming a special bond with them. In later years he assisted the family in the annual cattle branding.

Dean was employed by Verizon Customer Service and enjoyed sharing travel information for those going abroad. Dean loved to help people and was always making friends of every age and culture. We will miss his great sense of humor and his kind, loving heart. He liked to make people smile and laugh. Though Dean’s heart physically failed him it never failed to give care to others. Now he has joined his extended family and returned to the loving care of our Heavenly Father. Interment will be on Friday, October 11, 2019, 2:00 p.m., at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM.
