Debra Brewster passed away November 25, 2024 after complications with diabetes. Born in Albuquerque in 1951, Debra graduated from Highland High School, Class of 1968. She earned a BFA from Miami University and a MA in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Washington. Debra had a successful career in Rehabilitation Counseling at Cooley & Associates in Albuquerque.
Debra was a mermaid at heart, spending her youth on the beaches in Florida, California, and Hawaii. She played competitive junior tennis and taught tennis at the Beverly Tennis Courts in Albuquerque. An unfortunate workplace injury followed by a surgical debacle defined Debra’s life for years. After an unplanned early retirement, Debra managed her complex medical issues independently, spending years negotiating with insurance companies and pharmacies.
Debra enjoyed reading while taking long walks in her lap pool at the big house on Silver Street in downtown Albuquerque. She was always ready for an impromptu pool party with friends and loved playing mermaids with her niece, Stella, in the summer. Debra, always wearing purple, made dog-loving acquaintances when walking Skye, her mini Australian shepherd, at Highland Park, Bataan Park, Hidden Park, Netherwood Park, and most recently, Spring Park.
Debra is preceded in death by her parents Calvin Brewster and Stella Brewster. She is survived by her loving family, Carla Brewster, Alan Gremmel, Linda Hudson and Gloria Peña, Carrie, Larry, Reagan, and Kyle Moritomo, Charlyn and Stella Hudson, and Tommy and Karen Hudson. Debra leaves behind her lifelong friends, Joani Murphy, Laurie Stanton, and her close cousin Laura Wallin. Deb is already missed by her furry family, Luna, her Tabby kitty, and Skye.
The family would like to thank Dr. Deluca, Dr. Boyd, Dr. Wagner, and Dr. Langsjoen for their compassionate care of Debra. In lieu of flowers the family request donations in memory of Debra Brewster for the American Diabetes Foundation at www.Diabetes.org
