Derek Ikaika Dodd

DODD - Oh, Hawaii, oh sands of my family, my heart is with you. Derek Ikaika (meaning "strength") Dodd went to sleep in Jesus on September 25, 2009. He was born August 28, 1989, in Redlands, California and was raised in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, graduating Sandia View Academy, Corrales, New Mexico. As a baby, Ikaika toddled around with a guitar, and his love for music grew as he watched and participated with his family playing music, singing and dancing the hula. He had a passion for art, history, and the outdoors, from swimming in Hawaiian oceans to snowboarding in New Mexico mountains. He had completed a pharmacy tech program and worked at Smith's Pharmacy in Taylor Ranch, NM. He was a second Kyu in Kendo Japanese martial arts. Ikaika will be missed by many. He will be forever remembered by his parents, Dale and Mahealani Dodd, sister Kamalani Ching, grandparents Duke and LaVerne Ching and Dr. Duane and Elaine Dodd, Uncle CC (Lisa) Ching, Aunty Haunani (Gary) Neil, Aunty Kapua (Joji) Hollands, Aunty Luana (Brian) Wallace, Uncle Dennis (Kathy) Dodd, Aunty Joelle Dodd, and many cousins and friends. Because the service will be a celebration of his life, the family suggests that island wear is appropriate for anyone who wishes.
