Ashmore, Diane Elaine
Age 59, passed away Friday, May 26, 2017 with her family by her side. She was born in Ellsworth, ME, on June 19, 1957, to Clifton and Pauline Danis Ashmore. After high school, Diane went on to attend Michigan State University. While in college, she led her student housing co-operative as one of their most active presidents. This also was when Diane met Thomas, who was drawn to her brilliant mind. In 1981, she graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Chinese Language, and shortly after, the two were married. She was an independent woman, though very supportive and family-oriented. While always careful to keep her own identity, she was always ready with a helping hand or kind advice when those of her family encountered difficulty, or found themselves lost. With her patient demeanor and insistent words, she could reach even those whom others had given up on. With her creativity she always found the humor in any situation. Whether it was as the life of a family gathering, or trying to find solace in trying times, she was always able to find a joke to lift people's spirits, and to shed new light on problems that were seemingly insoluble. Those who knew her will sorely miss her wisdom. Her hobbies included swimming and tending to her lovely garden, as well as a life-long love of travel, photography, and the outdoors. Even as she traveled the world, touching three of the six continents, she maintained a lovely garden filled with fresh vegetables and roses back at home, much to the joy of her two cats. Her kind touch made her house feel like a home, while her words were filled with both the wisdom of one who has seen the world, and those who lived far from her. She was a voracious reader, both of books and of the news. She was always eager to learn new things, and to share them with others. Whether it was an interesting new fact, or a clever twist in one of the hundreds of mystery novels she read, she was always ready to help those around her broaden their perspectives. This also led her to a deep interest in politics, with which she volunteered a great deal of her time. Those closest to her will miss the tremendous insight she possessed into the workings of the world. Diane will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruth Thompson; brother, Paul Ashmore and brother in law, John Shepardson. Diane is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Thomas V. Sanchez; her child, Nicholas V. Sanchez; brothers, Henry (Mary Jane) Ashmore, David Ashmore, and Richard (Ellen) Ashmore; and sister, Vivian Shepardson.
