Berkheimer, Donald Joseph
Donald Joseph Berkheimer passed peacefully on January 11, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 25 years Anna ne Italiano and her family, his children Sheila and her husband Keaton, Christopher, Cynthia and granddaughter Hannah as well as his nephews William and Eugene and his niece Bobbi-Jane. Donald also had many grand nieces and nephews as well as many friends around the world. He is predeceased by his mother Nora Cronin; father Charles; his brothers, William and Edward as well as their wives Eda and Peggy. Donald was born into the Depression on March 11, 1931. He grew up in the tough streets of the Bronx. He served honorably in the Air Force in England during the Korean War. After the Air Force, he worked in the Bronx court system and New York’s many railroads at the same time. After marrying his first wife, Mariellen ne Murphy, they moved to Haverstraw, NY in 1968, where Donald was the Chief Clerk of the Rockland Family Court. He made many lifelong friends there and was a well-known personality in the lower Hudson Valley. He loved interacting with people and joined many clubs, including the American Legion, the Elks, the Moose and the Black Rock Fish and Game club. He had a lifelong interest in politics. He enjoyed good conversation, hunting, fishing and camping in the Adirondack Mountains. He was a high expert sharpshooter and loved to practice his shooting skills with his friends and brothers. He made a journey of a lifetime on his boat the length of the Atlantic Inland Waterway. After he retired, he picked up a second career as a stock broker and moved to Rio Rancho, NM. His charismatic personality won him many new friends in New Mexico. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 1 pm at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Road, Rio Rancho, NM.
