Donald E. Lockhart moved to Aztec in 1954, but he moved onto his Heavenly Home on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at the age of 78, to be all those loved ones who had gone before him. He was born September 20, 1931, in Kansas, to Edgar and Elsie Lockhart and was one of seven children.
He learned to work at a very early age.He began working on drilling rigs when he was 15 years old. He worked hard and really began to learn the oil field (such as it was at that time and age0 and all that was involved. He married Joyce Smith in August 1954. Soon after, they moved to Colorado following the oil field. They moved to Cortez, CO., and then to Durango, CO., and finally ended up in Aztec in 1954, in the middle of the oil field boom.
He worked for many drilling companies and finally retired in 2000 from Aztec Well Service, his employer for 25 years.
Those who wait for him are his parents, Edgar Lockhart and Elsie Meek; his wife Joyce; brothers, Elwood and Victor; sisters, Denise and Betty; and also a nephew, Freddy Fuller; his grandparents, aunts and uncles. Also waiting are brother-in-law, John Smith and Duke Marquardt, sisters-in-law, Fern Smith, Ruth Lockhart and Peggy Lockhart; and mom-in-law, Vergie "Grandma Smith. Also there to meet him is his dear neighbor and friend, Rose Penticoff.
His survivors are, daughter, Donna Lockhart McKinney, and husband, Nathan and grandson, Cody Lee Cadman. Also surviving him is a brother, Harwood Lockhart; sisters, Dixie Cropper and Billye Deck; sister-in-law, Eris Marquardt; and numerous nieces and nephews. Very importantly left behind was "Spekie" his extremely spoiled little Chihuahua and best friend forever!
