Grossetete, Doris C. Age 84, passed away Monday, November 5, 2012. She was born on January 14, 1928 to Janez and Franceska (Krapez) Cibej in Nova Gorcia, Slovenia. Doris came to the United States in 1946 as an 18 year old war bride at the end of WWII. Doris had fought with the Partisans during the war where she met Fred. Doris came to the United Stated on a ship dedicated to war brides. She landed on Ellis Island only knowing a few English words. Over the years, Doris became fluent in English, Italian and Spanish along with her native Slovenian. Upon her arrival in the United States, Doris attended night school to learn English and U. S. history in order to receive her U.S. citizenship. Doris was very proud of her U. S. citizenship. She is remembered for stopping whatever she was doing to stand with her hand over her heart during the playing of the National Anthem. Doris worked at Peter Poly in Winrock for over 20 years and she was also a member of the German American Club. Doris was married for 28 years to Fred who preceded her in passing in 1974. She is also preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers Ivo and France. Doris is survived by her two sons Ben and George, her grandson Nicolas; sister Eva and nieces Klavdija, Miranda and Petra. A service will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 12:30 pm in the Strong-Thorne Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, 1100 Coal Ave. SE.
