Dorothy Mae Rhodes-Adams

Dorothy Mae Rhodes was born on the 4th of August 1926 in Stephen, Arkansas to the parents of Robert and Nellie C Rhodes. She was the second child of seven children. As a child growing up on the family homestead Dorothy helped sustain the family by working the family farm a long side her father. Her father�s family motto was, �once a member attained his or her education, they help pull up the next�. Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age at the Good Hope Baptist Church under Pastor Samuel B Merris. She started her formal education at Sandy Branch School in Buena Vista, Arkansas. Later she moved to Camden, Arkansas where she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1948. After graduation, with the encouragement of her cousin Able Hinson, she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico to look for work. Later that year she married her cousin�s brother-in-law Milton Adams. Three children were born to this Union, Mildred, Milton, and Barbara. By 1949, Dorothy had found a New Church home �Shilo Missionary Baptist Church� under the pastorship of Reverend Patton. In her many years she studied and taught God�s Word through the Sunday School Department. For twenty-five years Dorothy worked as a domestic worker to support her family. Sometimes working as many as six to seven days a week. Her hard work, dedication, and caring left a lifelong appreciation from her various household employers and family members. Due to personal illness, she retired to help raise her grandchildren and dedicated her time and service at the Thomas Bell Senior Citizen Center. During her illness in the last year, Dorothy has keep the faith leaning on the promises of the Lord. On the first day of November 2013 Dorothy was called home to be with the Lord. Proceeding Dorothy in Death is her father, Robert Rhodes; mother, Nellie C Rhodes; sister, Ada Mae Brown; sister, Norelee Rhodes and brother, H.A. Rhodes. Love ones left behind are her sister, Ebbie Rhodes; sister, Oralee West Brook; brother, John Henry Rhodes; daughter, Midred Lewis (Henry) of San Bernardino, CA; son, Milton Adams Jr. (Cathy) of Portland, OR; daughter, Barbara Smith; six grandchildren and eight grand-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Thursday, November 7, 2013, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Shiloh Baptist Church, 608 Avenida Caesar Chavez SE, Albuquerque. Service will be held on Friday, November 8, 2013, 11:00 am, at Shiloh Baptist Church. Interment to follow at Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale Blvd. SE, Albuquerque. Pallbearers will be Milton Adams, Jr., Jason Smith, Donald Ray Rhodes, Frank Johnson, Du�Shaunt Brooks and Clarence Washington. Honorary pallbearers are Henry Lewis and Robert Smith.
