We are heartfully commemorating the life of Douglas Scott Barnard Sr. (lovingly known as Doug), a cherished husband, father, poppa, son, brother, uncle, and a dear friend to countless others. Doug's journey on earth ended on Friday, November 10, 2023, at the age of 55, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and warmth.
Doug was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Austin and father, Jack Wayne. He is survived by his wife, Roberta and their children, Douglas Jr. (Alex), Reagan (Kennan) and Troy; grandchildren, Douglas III, Graceland, Jaye, and Braxton; mother, Evalynn, sister, Amy and brother, Jack Wayne Jr. He is also survived by a large and loving family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and their families.
Born on March 4, 1968, in Albuquerque, NM, to Jack Wayne and Evalynn Barnard, Doug grew up in Paradise Hills where his passion for football began in his youth, playing YAFL at the tender age of 10 and later showcasing his talents as an offensive lineman and defensive linebacker for the Cibola Cougars in high school.
Doug's heart found its match in Roberta, whom he wed on December 2, 1988, at Mesa Baptist Church, in Rio Rancho. Their journey took them from the college halls in Tucson, Arizona, back to Albuquerque, where Doug embarked on a distinguished 30-plus-year career as the Director of IT at Radiology Associates of Albuquerque.
His love for the Dallas Cowboys was renowned; through wins and losses, his loyalty never wavered. Doug's taste in classic 70’s and 80’s music and fondness for old movies, TV shows and classic cars were more than hobbies—they were pieces of history he loved sharing with his children and grandchildren, creating bonds and memories that will forever be cherished.
We will forever remember Doug for the immense love he had for his family, his unwavering support for every child's fundraiser, and his down-to-earth nature that made him a friend to all. In lieu of flowers, we invite donations to Watermelon Rancho in Rio Rancho in memory of Doug, a man who never hesitated to extend a helping hand.
Our family extends our deepest gratitude for the overwhelming support, prayers, and presence during Doug’s final days. Doug's legacy of kindness, strength, and love will continue to inspire and guide us.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday November 18, 2023, 10:00 am at Mesa Baptist Church - 1411 Golf Course Rd. Rio Rancho. Internment will follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park.
