Douglas Clifford Reed (Doug), age 67, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on August 3, 2011. He was preceded in passing by his son Dan in 1993. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Phyllis Watkins Reed; his son, Dr. Matthew Reed and wife, Shawn; three grandchildren, Lainie, Lindsey, and Ben Reed of Albuquerque. Brothers, Ray Reed and wife, D��?�Ann, of Granbury, TX, and Jim Reed and wife Cindy, of Santa Ynez, CA. Doug was welcomed into this world by his parents, John Clifford Reed and Geraldine Cunningham Reed, in Levelland, TX where Doug spent his younger years. After graduating from Levelland High School he received degrees from South Plains College and West Texas A&M and a master��?�s degree from Texas A&M Commerce. Doug taught high school biology and coached high school sports in Morton, TX, Magnolia, TX, and Carthage, TX for 35 years. Doug��?�s career was his passion. He loved for his students to succeed. Doug published The I Can Program: A Guide to Successful Athletes for the Texas High School Coach. Doug loved his family and enjoyed working with his sons��?� activities: Little League, Dixie League, and St. William Catholic Church Youth Group. He loved life, making people happy, working outdoors, cooking, and lifting weights. A member of Risen Savior Catholic Church in Albuquerque, he loved attending mass together with his "whole family. Doug enjoyed retirement in Alto, NM before moving to Albuquerque in 2008. During his last months of life, when dementia took his independence, he was lovingly cared for at The Retreat, in Rio Rancho, NM, where he was fondly called "Coach. Doug donated his brain tissue to Harvard Brain Tissue Resource Center in order to help find a cure for young onset dementia. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am Monday, August 8, 2011 at Risen Savior Catholic Church in Albuquerque. A Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Resthaven Cemetery in Carthage, TX at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Doug personally requested that donations be made, in his memory, to further research of young onset dementia.
