Dr. G. Clarence Johnson

Age 94, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on December 6, 1923, to George Sr. and Dora Johnson.

George graduated High School from Central High School in Columbus, Ohio. He went on to receive his Undergraduate, Graduate and Doctorate Degrees from The Ohio State University.  George served his country with the Navy as a Chief Petty officer in World War II. Married the love of his life Thelma C. Meriweather on November 19, 1949 in Indianapolis, IN. They spent 67 years happily married. He was employed with IU Health - Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. for 29 years. George received the first African American Employee of the Year award in 1966. He was an avid fan of all sports, enjoyed playing the card game Bid Whist. A member of the Witherspoon Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis, IN. and Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church, Rio Rancho, NM.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Dora Johnson; wife, Thelma Johnson; son, Keith Johnson.

George is survived by his son, Kevin Johnson of Rio Rancho, NM; brother in law and sister in law, Dr. Charles and Betty Meriweather of Indianapolis, IN; several nephews and nieces throughout the country.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018, 11:00 AM at Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church 1004 24th St. SE, Rio Rancho, NM.

In lieu of flowers donations may be given in George's honor to Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church, 2400 Unser Blvd. SE, Rio Rancho, NM. George will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
