83, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the New Mexico State Veterans Home in Truth or Consequences, NM. He was surrounded by his loving family as he peacefully took his last breath here on earth. He was born in San Antonio, NM on April 28, 1932 to Jose Mariano and Emma (De Jesus Chavez) Gonzales. Eddie was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1956. He married the love of his life, Vera on August 23, 1954 and the rest is history made of love, laughter, commitment, and faith. Eddie was an Optic Tech for many years for the government but his true passion was his farm and ranch in San Antonio.Tending to his cows was more of a hobby than a job. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and camping and he loved to sing and dance. Eddie enjoyed the occasional trip to the Casino to try his luck. He was a true jokester and his April fools jokes and humor always made for a good time. He played the part of "Santa" during Christmas very well with his loud footsteps and jingle bells by the front door, he loved being a father. Most importantly, Eddie was the definition of a devoted husband and a hardworking man with a heart of gold. He loved his family more than anything and he was so proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his three sisters, Aveni; Thomasita, and Prudencia. Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elvera (Jojola) Gonzales; his devoted children, Tony Gonzales and spouse, Ed Moss; Mercedes Ortega and husband, Bob; Melvin Gonzales and Gina; Joe Gonzales and wife, Vicky; Carlos Gonzales; Paul Gonzales and wife, Amie; and Renee Hollis and husband, James. Eddie will also be missed by his brother in law, Alfred Jojola and wife, Jeanne; other loving family members and close friends. Eddie will live on in the hearts of his 19 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren (+ 1 on the way), and 1 great great grandchild. A Graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at 10:00 am in the San Antonito Cemetery, San Antonio, NM.
