EDMUND LUIS TRUJILLO
Edmund Luis Trujillo, longtime resident of Rio Rancho and former resident of Santa Fe, NM passed to a better life January 23, 2017. Edmund, 79, was born January 13, 1938 in Raton, NM to J. Frank Trujillo and Gloria Trujillo, who along with his sister, Irene Hanson, preceded him in death.
Edmund is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Esther; children, Edmund, Jr. (Victoria), Donna Levi (Ronald), Ursula Richards, and Charlene Grafty (Christopher); stepchildren, Basil J. Davis (Laurene), Ginalynn Garcia (Ruben), and Justina Lopez ; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; Brother; Enrique Trujillo (Carmen) Sister; Rita Harvey (Robert) and many other relatives and good friends.
Edmund grew up in Santa Fe, earned a Bachelor’s degree and Master of Arts degree in Legal Studies and worked briefly in government service prior to his hire in the Los Alamos National Laboratory Equal Employment Opportunity Office, which he later managed. He later worked as a Probation/Parole Officer and Personnel Investigator before returning to his true passion, combating employment discrimination, as Equal Opportunity Officer for the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, the position from which he retired. Edmund’s devotion to ensuring everyone’s right to freedom from discrimination was not limited to the workplace. Indeed, it led to him becoming active in several civil rights organizations, including Image and Lulac.
Edmund’s inner strength, faith, and love for family and gardening served him well through the health issues that plagued him during the last 15 years of his life. While these issues may have affected his ability to travel and cut a rug, they did not diminish his outlook and sense of humor. He will be missed and not forgotten by all who love him and who take comfort with the knowledge that his battles with health issues and discrimination are over and that he now can enjoy retirement in that better place to which we all aspire.
Edmund’s family expresses its gratitude for the much-welcomed support, prayers, and thoughtfulness provided to them by his many friends. They invite all to his rosary, to be held Friday, January 27 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church at 1502 Sara rd SE, Rio Rancho, NM, with the funeral mass to immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. At the conclusion of mass, please join us for burial followed by reception at the Elks Lodge at 1530 Barbara Loop SE in Rio Rancho.
