Harris, Edward Earl 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 31, 2014. He was born in Bisbee, AZ on November 1, 1925 to John Earl and Frances (Burris) Harris. He was a lifelong resident of NM, but resided in Socorro for the last 68 years. Ed was a proud United States Veteran. He served in the Navy from 1944-1946. In 1996, Ed retired after 50 years of owning and operating Harris Brothers, alongside his brothers. It was a farming and land leveling business which he loved. He was very proud of his garden and enjoyed canning. Ed had a great interest and found joy in being a member of the Masonic Lodge, since 1958 and the Eastern Star, since 1965. Above all, Ed was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family and adored his grandchildren beyond measure. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Douglas Harris; and his brother in law, Joe Pete Wood. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Lillian J. (Sipes) Harris; his children, Leslie Van Winkle and husband, Rip; Keri Digbuy and husband, Shawn; Becky Cooper and husband, Kevin; Reed Allen and wife, Jeanita; Harold Hammack Jr. and wife, Sandy; Judy Bailey and husband, Ted; and Darlene Johnston; his brother, John Harris and wife, Bonnie; his sister, Ruth Wood; his sister in law, Judy Harris; and many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and close friends. Ed will also be greatly missed by his 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 12:00 pm at the Masonic Lodge - Socorro #9, 912 Leroy, Socorro, NM 87801. Inurnment will be held in the Socorro Cemetery.
