Marinsek, Edward "Ed" A. Ed was born in Gallup, NM in April 1928. His father Franc and mother Mary Gantar immigrated to Gallup from Slovenia, Europe. He graduated from Gallup High School in May 1945 just prior to the end of World War II. Ed was granted a small scholarship to Highlands University and in the fall of 1945 he departed for Las Vegas, NM. He played trumpet with his band regularly for town and university dances. He made lifelong friends. Best of all, in the fall of 1947 he met a beautiful young lady from the suburbs of Chicago, Betty Anne Crews. She was to become his wife and life long companion. Ed and Betty Anne were married in Mora, NM on February 14, 1948 at the home of a college friend. Ed received his Bachelors degree from Roosevelt in January 1951. In the fall of 1953 he began a teaching career at Washington Junior High School, after five years as a teacher of language arts and social studies he was appointed as Activities Director at Albuquerque High School located on Broadway and Central Avenue. In January 1961 he returned to Washington Junior High as Principal. In 1968 the Albuquerque Board of Education decentralized APS administrative and instructional services to the districts 110 schools. Ed was appointed as the south area superintendent for ten years, then ten years as the north area superintendent, before retiring in 1986. Following retirement Ed was elected to a term on the APS school board. This completed 36 years of service in APS. Ed's interests included travel, fishing, music, reading and wood working. Ed is survived by three children, Karl and spouse Carol of Bayfield, CO, Matthew of Aztec, NM and Cassandra Kitchens and husband Robert of Albuquerque; his two grandchildren, Rob and Jessica also of Albuquerque. The grandchildren brought great joy to Ed and Betty. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
