Edward McConnell

McConnell, Edward (Ed) R. Age 78, passed away Monday, September 3, 2012. He was born in Tulsa, OK on November 1, 1933. He spent 13 years in the Army Reserves as a Sgt. 1st class, E7. Mr. McConnell retired from Roadway Express after 30 years and was a member of the Teamsters Local 492. He was a over-the-road driver, where he had three million miles of safe driving. He served 27 years as a Bernalillo County Sheriff's Reserve deputy. The last 10 years as President. He also served seven years as a Torrance County Sheriff's Reserve Commander. Mr. McConnell was a member of the New Mexico Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA) for 20 years. He was one of the founding members of the Roadrunner Convoy (NM-MVPA), serving as President for six years. Ed would portray himself as Gen. Douglas McArthur and drove his 1953 M38-A1, a restored 1953 military vehicle (Jeep). The Roadrunner Convey is active in community events as well as military and veterans affairs, i.e., parades and static display events. Mr. McConnell was also a liaison to the United Veteran's Council. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Marilyn L. McCaleb McConnell; parents, Paul R. McConnell, Violet Bird McConnell Hopkins; brother Paul R. McConnell Jr. Edward is survived by his sons, Michael R. McConnell and wife, Paula, Geary R. McConnell and wife, Julie; daughter Vickie L. McConnell; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister, Paula Sutton of Greeley, CO. We'll miss you Pop.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.at Daniels Family Funeral Services Carlisle Chapel 3113 Carlisle Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Ed's name to Roadrunner Convoy, P.O. Box 36295, Albuquerque, NM 87176 or the charity of your choice.
