Trotter, Eleonora Holub Harvey Age 71, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico for 34 years. Wife, mother, grandmother, and beloved friend, passed away Monday, November 19, 2012. She was born in St. Paul, Minnesota to John and Irene Harvey. She graduated from Summit School and received a BA from Sarah Lawrence College. Ellie studied theatre at Guild Hall School of Music and Drama in London for two years. She earned a BS in Zoology from the University of Washington and a PhD in Biology from UNM. Her PhD research was on stream ecosystems in New Mexico. She worked at Rockefeller University, New York, with famed biologists Don Griffin, who discovered echolocation in bats, and whale researcher Roger Payne, with whom she spent a season in the Pribilof Islands studying fur seal behavior. Ellie used a helium logging balloon in Washington State to study earth sounds as possible navigation signals for migrating birds. She was a gifted teacher, who created two unique courses at UNM: Conservation and Indigenous Peoples and Conservation: Learning by Doing. These courses had students working with native peoples in New Mexico to create improvements in stream ecosystems on native lands. She was most proud of her students' successes and continued to follow her students after graduation. She was honored, in April 2011, for her contributions to the UNM Biology Department, especially to the scientific education of minority students, and most especially Native students. Ellie loved and championed indigenous art, folk arts and artists, and especially loved to support emerging artists. Her interests included horses and horseback riding, horticulture, fly fishing, bird watching, gardening, photography, cooking, books and reading, Bouviers des Flandres and Jack Russell Terriers. Eleonora is survived by her husband of 34 years John Trotter, of Albuquerque; her son Keet D'Arms, daughter-in-law Michelle McClellan, and granddaughter Ariana McClellan-D'Arms of Atlanta, GA; brother William Harvey and sister-in-law Christiane Tsouo-Harvey of Parisot, France; brother John H.
