Ellen Lucy Davis

DAVIS- Ellen Lucy Davis age 88, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2011. Ellen was a resident of Socorro, New Mexico for forty years. She graduated from New Mexico Tech. She taught Spanish and Social Studies at Socorro Middle School for many years, where she established and was the sponsor of the Spanish Club. After her retirement from teaching, Ellen translated for the courts in Socorro and compiled oral histories in Spanish from early residents of Socorro and Magdalena. She was a life long learner who loved reading and was a member of the Friends of the Socorro Library. Love of dogs and other animals led to her membership in the Socorro Humane Society. Ellen was known for growing beautiful roses which she started from cuttings she got from friends as well as from rose gardens in various parts of the country. Growing irises was also another favorite activity of hers. She is preceded in death by her parents Oliver and Jacinta Lozoya Jackson; Survivors include her three children, Jamie Lozoya-Davis of Los Lunas, NM, Robert C. Davis and wife Karren of Manhattan Beach, California, Christine Stark and husband Richard of Santa Fe NM; Four grandchildren, Hope E. Hunter and husband Charles, Tyler Davis, Deidra Tran and husband Khoa, Kristen Cole and husband Caleb. Six great-grandchildren, Cynthia Cota and husband Matt, Jamie Price, Tabitha Paynter, Melissa Paynter, Ethan Hunter, and Riley Cole. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the LDS Chapel in Socorro. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Socorro Humane society.
