Elnora S. Trax

April 3, 1919 — December 30, 2014

Trax, Elnora (Betsy) Simpson
Age 95 years, 8 months and 27 days, completed her journey and passed away peacefully on the morning of December 30, 2014.  She was born on April 3, 1919 in Buffalo, NY to Lorenzo F. Simpson and Sadie (DOWDLE) Simpson.

She grew up in Warsaw, NY during the great depression with lessons learned of saving and thrift. In 1938, she graduated from the Rochester School of Commerce as a medical secretary. She then began work for an ophthalmologist in Rochester, NY.

She married Edward C. Trax of Rochester on August 4, 1942 while he was home on a 3 day pass from the US Army Air Corps.  His duty stations took them to Montgomery, AL and Malden, MO, before returning to Rochester, NY in 1943 to raise their family.  In 1978, they retired to Green Valley, AZ where they were involved in many volunteer projects, including many hours spent at the Mt. Hopkins Observatory. After Eddie’s death, Betsy volunteered at the Titan Missile Museum in Tucson.  In 1999, she moved to Rio Rancho, NM to be near her younger daughter, Christine.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, her brother, Robert A. Simpson, nephew Robert J. Simpson and grandson, Douglas E. Rutherford of Tucson, AZ.

She is survived by her 3 children, Barbara J. Trax, of Shrewsbury, MA, Christine (John) Holley of Rio Rancho, NM and Steven L. Trax of Dallas, TX.  She is survived by 3 grandsons, Patrick (Heather) Rutherford, of Snellville, GA, Daniel Trax and Jason Trax of Rochester, NY, her nephew, Richard G. Simpson (Linda) of Ontario, NY and one great-granddaughter, Ava Langdon of Snellville, GA. She is also survived by 3 grand-nephews and 3 grand-nieces, as well as 3 great-grand nephews and 8 great-grand nieces. Her nephew, Robert J. Simpson’s surviving spouse, Louise Simpson is also left to mourn her loss.

She was proud of her family heritage of service to this country from the Revolutionary War, to the Civil War, the Spanish American War, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf Wars and on through the War on Terror.  She became a member of the Charles Dibrell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in 2012, a direct result of her guardianship of the family history and preservation of historic family photos.  Betsy was a generous and charitable woman who was devoted to her family, committed to her faith, and a friend to many.

At her request, there will no Memorial Service in New Mexico. Private Internment will take place in Green Valley, AZ at the convenience of the family.  Those wishing, may contribute to the Arthritis Foundation. However, the kindest gift of remembrance would be a Random Act of Kindness in Betsy’s name and honor.

The family would like to thank the management of Camino Retirement Apartments and the many wonderful caregivers that provided such good care and who were so kind to her.
