Elsie (Eloisa) B. Chavez

Elsie (Eloisa) B. Chavez, age 99, passed peacefully in her sleep on May 19, 2021, at her home in Rio Rancho, NM.  Elsie was born March 22, 1922 in Upper Rociada, NM to Manuel Grine Baroz and Albina Baroz. She met Raymond M. Chavez in 1940 and they were married shortly thereafter on April 21, 1940. In 1943, Elsie and Raymond moved to Colorado where she worked as an Herbalist, Healer, Curandera, Draper, Cloth Merchant, Sales Associate, and Merchandiser, while raising a family. In 1996, she and Raymond returned to New Mexico where she completed her PhD in Domestic Engineering. She was predeceased by her husband of 77 years in 2017. Elsie was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Denver, and Second Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque. Elsie is survived by: her daughters Dolores and Lily, and her sons Raymond, Freddie, and Will; 16 Grandchildren; 18 Great-Grandchildren; and 3 Great-Great-Grandchildren.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Elsie touched are invited to Menaul School at 301 Menaul Blvd NE, Hart Park, for the Viewing at 9:30am, the Service at 10am, and the Reception at 11:15am, on June 5, 2021, to celebrate Elsie’s life on earth and passing to Heaven. The Interment will be held at Vista Verde, 4310 Sara Rd. in Rio Rancho, at 1PM.
