Smith, Emily Christine
Age 25, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque and Rio Rancho passed away peacefully in her Rio Rancho home on November 2, 2014. Emily is a 2007 graduate of Rio Rancho High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting (magna cum laude) from the University of New Mexico in May of 2013. Despite battling serious medical issues for many years, Emily was a positive and motivating influence to others and always had a smile and friendly word for those she met. She holds a special place in the hearts of so many. Emily displayed incredible strength in the face of adversity that few of us will ever know. She was an outstanding cook whose thoughtful creations were enjoyed daily by her immediate family and by her extended family on holidays and special occasions. Her knack for design is evident in her family home. Emily had a passion for reading and was fiercely competitive in any games or sports she played. Emily was so loved by her family.
She is survived by her parents Ron and Jolene Smith; her sister Carrie Burns and husband Mitch and her younger sister Nicole. She adored her nieces and nephew, Khyler, Taylor and Boston Burns, who lovingly referred to her as “Auntie Em”. Also surviving Emily are her grandparents, George and Gloria Chavez and Bob and Shirley Smith; Aunt Marianne, Uncle Dale and cousin Lauryn Anaya, and her Uncle Greg and Aunt Marites Smith…as well as a long list of extended family and friends. Emily, you left us all too soon, but we know you will be waiting for us in Heaven. We look forward to the time we are all together again.
