Age 66, passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at his home in Corrales, NM surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Salem, MA on May 26, 1950, to Robert and Elizabeth (Lovejoy) Bottomly. Eric grew up in Marblehead, MA. He moved to Albuquerque, NM after high school and started up a tree-trimming service. He attended the University of New Mexico where he received a Bachelors Degree in Education. Eric loved the outdoors and was an avid naturalist and environmentalist. He took up photography and spent long hours capturing images of plants and wildlife. He and his family moved to Socorro, NM in 1993. His love of animals led him to raise horses on the family farm in Lemitar, NM. He was a member of the Save Our Bosque Task Force and was involved in several related agencies in Socorro. A testament to his passion for wildlife and the environment, he leaves a Conservation Easement on his property in Bosquecito, NM. Eric will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents. Eric is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Teresa "Terri" (Neff)Bottomly; sons, Daniel, Michael (Kasey Jones), Christopher, and Thomas (Erin Lilly); daughter, Jessica; granddaughters, Malachi Bottomly and Cheyenne Bottomly; brothers, Robert, Peter and Stephen Bottomly. The family would like to thank Dina Gray and Michael Dunn of Hospice of New Mexico for the compassion and care provided to Eric during his final months. A Private burial has taken place.
