Ernest Bryan South

South, Ernest Bryan died on August 22, 2013 in hospice. He was born in Ulster Spring, Trelawny, Jamaica, on November 7, 2013, the youngest child of Adolphus Bryan and Eugenie O'Meally South. After attending high school he studied accounting, and remained in that field throughout his life. He worked in the departments of statistics, housing, supply, and with the lottery commission. Ernest was always taking courses in his field, either by mail, at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica, in New York, London and finally in Albuquerque. He married Rosamond Foreman on September 10, 1941. They had three daughters. They moved to the United States in 1977, and lived in Albuquerque for the rest of their lives. Ernest worked in that city for a short time, and then was employed for several years at the Cibola General Hospital in Grants, NM. Ernest took an active role in his church, whether in Jamaica or Albuquerque, with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Knights of Columbus, and as a lector. After retiring from Grants, he and Rosamond traveled to many locations around the world, including England and Scotland, Italy, the Mediterranean, Canada, Hong Kong, and others. He enjoyed working on crossword puzzles until the end, and read widely. His home was Brookdale Place at Valencia for almost 16 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings and his wife Rosamond, to whom he was married for 61 years. He is survived by his daughters Carroll Thomas and husband, George A. Baker, Jr., Jean-Anne South, Marguerite South-Riley and husband, Toby Riley; grandchildren, Lynn Meritt and husband, Dave, David Thomas and wife, Sharon, Jessica Thomas; great grandchildren, Justin Jeremy, Julie and Jamie Meritt, Sara and Alex Thomas; nieces, Gloria Humphreys, Linda South, Marjorie Kirby; nephew Edward Nash.
