Estefanita Salazar Maes was born in Red Cliff, Colorado on March 23rd, 1939, the second of ten siblings. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Isabel Salazar, Daughter Alice Jean Maes-Everett, great-grandson Skylar Norman Vigil, Sister Ruby Valdez, Sister Isabel Madrid, and Brother Eliseo Salazar.
Estefanita married the love of her life, Lee Maes, in 1956 and they remained married for a blessed 65 years. They raised their four daughters in Hernandez and Espanola, NM and, after retirement from the State of New Mexico, relocated to Albuquerque, NM. They spent their last months together in their dream home in Corrales, NM, enjoying the quiet solitude and their beautiful garden.
Estefanita was diagnosed with cancer in 2003 and was in remission until May 2021. She lived her last ten months enjoying her family, traveling, shopping, and always maintained a positive and very faithful attitude. Through her entire journey, she remained strong and optimistic, and was surrounded by love and support. On April 9, 2022, in Corrales, NM, Estefanita, at age 83, returned peacefully to her heavenly home. She was surrounded by her loving husband and daughters.
Estefanita is survived by her Husband Lee Maes, Daughter Rosalie Vigil and husband Norman, Daughter Josephine Zamora and husband Kenneth, Daughter Sandra Maes, Son-in-law Daniel Everett, Grandson Norman Lee Vigil and wife Abby, Grandson Thomas Vigil and wife Lisa, Granddaughter Andrea Martinez, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous siblings, relatives, and friends.
A Rosary will be held at San Ignacio Catholic Church on Friday, April 22, 2022, beginning at 1:15PM, Mass will follow at 2:00PM.
