Additionally she is survived by her step-granddaughter, Kirstin Keller and her two sons Nicholas and Jobe Hawkinson. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored her, several cousins and many special friends. Estela began her work life at an early age, leaving school at the eighth grade, and helping to raise her youngest brother and sister after losing their parents within six months of each other. She always spoke fondly of her time at the Val Verde hotel and had many stories to tell. She was a dispatcher and security for White Sands/Stallion Site Center and retired as Administrator of the Senior Companion/Foster Grandparent program of Socorro County. Her proudest accomplishment was attaining her GED diploma when she was in her 50s and then going on to earn a Nursing Assistant Certification and becoming one of the first employees at the newly opened “Good Sam” of Socorro. She made many blankets, embroidered beautifully, canned her peaches and apricots making them into jams and jellies and made the best empanadas! She never met anyone she didn’t want to feed so if you went to visit – you better go hungry because she would make sure you left her house with a full belly. Rosary to be recited on Friday, June 7, 2019, at 7:00 PM at San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 10:00 am.
