Esther Chavez

Chavez, Esther B. May 11, 1919 to October 5, 2013 Esther Chavez was born in Santa Rita, New Mexico to Santiago Bermudez and Dorotea Olivo. In the mid-1920s her family moved to Tehachapi, California and later to Santa Catalina Island, California. By 1938, Esther was in Los Angeles, living across the street from her future husband, Matias Chavez. They married in 1940 and raised their family in Los Angeles. When her husband retired in 1970, they returned to their home state of New Mexico. They moved to a newly built home on Tobacco Road in the South Valley on a half-acre of farm land so they could grow their own chili. Esther is survived by her sister Dolores Rojas and her family; her four daughters, Dorothy (Leon) Wiskup, Dinah (John) Meacher, Nannette Kingslan, Debra (Mike) White and her one son Jim Chavez; her grandchildren Michelle, Robert, Radinka, Lora, Kenda, Anthony, Kewaii, Brooke and Jim; her great grandchildren Amber, Carson, Miranda, Nicole, Chantee, Robert, Anthony, Mitchell, Olivia, Dane, Amanda, Sedona and Dylan and two great great grandchildren Jacob and Jackson. The family wishes to thank the staff at Casa de Palomas and the Presbyterian Hospice team for all their thoughtful and loving care to Esther. A graveside service will be held on Saturday October 26, 2013, at 11:00am, at Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale Blvd SE.
