Eugene Leath

September 5, 1934 — May 19, 2019

Eugene Leath, 84, passed away on May 19, 2019, from complications of stroke. Eugene was born to Hazel and Mitchell Leath in Roth, KY, on September 5, 1934. Eugene lived his first 15 years in Kentucky. At the beginning of high school, he moved to Tuolumne, CA, where he also graduated. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force and began what would be a successful and enjoyable career, retiring as Chief Master Sergeant. His overseas assignments included Clark Air Force Base (Philippines) and Hahn Air Force Base (Germany). He also served in the Vietnam War from April 1970 to April 1971.  He received the Military Merit medal, the Bronze Star Medal, and a medal for valor from the Vietnamese government.  After retiring from the Air Force, he enjoyed working as the Golf Course Superintendent of the Albuquerque Country Club for 10 years. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Hazel and Mitchel Leath; his sister, Billie (Leath) Hill; and his beloved wife, Barbara Lawayne (Brown) Leath. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda L. (Leath) Sego and husband, Lane S. Sego; son, Samuel T. Leath and wife, Suzie; and daughter, Debbie K. (Leath) Clark; 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and his beloved and loyal friend, Hilde Schuelke. His favorite hobbies included golfing and fishing. He will be remembered as a gentle man, loving husband, father, grandfather. He was a man of integrity, who was fair and honest with all men, and who served his country with honor. His funeral will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 6000 Kachina St NW, Albuquerque, NM, on May 25, 2019, at 10 am. Bishop Abraham Leath Sego will be presiding. He will be buried next to his wife at Vista Verde Memorial Park in Rio Rancho. Special thanks to all the kind caretakers at Beehive Homes and Ambercare Hospice for their loving care these last months.
