With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Evalynn Louise Barnard on March 9, 2025. A devoted mother, sister, aunt, cherished grandmother, and loving great-grandmother, Evalynn’s strength, warmth, and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.
Born on December 21, 1946, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, Evalynn lived a life rooted in love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to her family. She took immense pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always putting family first and creating a home filled with love, laughter, and wisdom. Whether through her comforting words, selfless acts, or ability to bring people together, she left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Beyond her devotion to family, Evalynn was a woman of strength and determination. She lived life on her own terms, embracing each moment with courage and an indomitable spirit. Her love, guidance, and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Evalynn was preceded in death by her mother, Evalyn Horton; father, Woodrow Horton; sister, Lutrisha Wooten; brother, Bill Horton; son, Doug Barnard; and grandson, Austin Barnard and her niece Norma Lea.
She is survived by her son, Wayne Barnard; daughter, Amy Nafus (Brandon); brother, Mark Horton (Linda), daughter-in-law, Roberta Barnard; grandchildren, Tyler Nafus (Ela), Jocelynn Gallegos (Brandon), Douglas Barnard Jr., Reagan Panther (Kennan), and Troy Barnard; and great-grandchildren, Aaron, Nolan, Aaliyah, Mia, Scotty, Gracie, Jaye, and Braxton; her nephews Justin and Scott and nieces Leah, Rachel and Alex. She is also lovingly remembered by many other relatives and dear friends.
A service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, March 13, at 10:00 AM at Rio Rancho Church of Christ, 1006 22nd St. SE, Rio Rancho. Interment will follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to Almost Home New Mexico Rescue and Boarding at almosthomenm.org. Evalynn will be deeply missed but never forgotten. She is now reunited with those who passed before her, resting peacefully in eternal love.
