Evelyn Gish, 89, passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ during the early morning hours of Friday, November 13, 2009, at San Juan Regional Medical Center, after suffering a severe fall in her home. The fifth of five daughters born to Eli and Ina Schrock, Evelyn Oma Schrock was born October 24, 1920, in Dodge City, Kansas. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; daughter, Jeannine Rahm on August 13, 2009, and, in 1984, by the father of her five daughters, Glenn F. Gish. Eldest sister, Ruth Ann Taylor, age 101, of Branson, Mo., survives Evelyn. Her four surviving daughters are: Glenda (Bill) Allen, Julie (David) Platt, Jean Elise (Kevin) Smith, all of Farmington, and Kristine (Dennis) Russell of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She also is survived by son-in-law, Dennis Rahm of Farmington; grandchildren, Greg (Georgette) Allen, Georf Allen, Eve Lynn (Mike) Clawson, Gerrod Anderson, Leah Wells, "Little" Dennis Rahm and Cierra Manus, all of Farmington, Autumn (Chad) VanBuskirk of Sioux Falls, S.D., Jamie Anderson of Las Cruces, Miranda Wells of Denver, Co., and Brittany (Johnathan ) Goodman of Grand Junction, Co.; and great-grandchildren, Tessa and Heather Allen, Hannah and Michaela Clawson and Zack Goodman. Glenn and Evelyn first came to Farmington from Lakin, Kansas, in 1954, when Glenn was to begin work with First National Bank of Farmington. It was 1957, when he and his partners completed The Glencliff Lodge (now known under other ownership as The Rimrock), that Evelyn went to work in their new venture, known simply as "The Glencliff." Evelyn was later employed by JaVees, LaPlacita Motel, Apple Tree Inn, Texas Optical, Brewer Funeral Home and, finally, at Farmington Drug, where she retired at age 87 with the closing of the drugstore, and after 50 years of non-stop employment. In her early years, at age 14; she prided herself as having one of the very few jobs available in Dodge City during the Depression, working at the local "Five and Dime" and making 25 cents an hours. Viewing each job as an opportunity to meet people and have treasured conversation, Evelyn loved her work outside the home, becoming quite the shutterbug by taking snapshots of customers and presenting them with their photo. Furthering her photo opportunities, she soon became the family photographer, making sure to bring her camera to many family gatherings. Evelyn loved her family, her many friends, her Sunday School Class at Emmanuel Baptist Church, and her home with the front yard tree and it's abundant leaves. Simply put, she was Mom, Grandma, friend, clerk and shutterbug. Above all, she loved her Lord, and her family now comes to realize that although she will be so tenderly missed, her daughter, Jeannine, who recently preceded Evelyn in death, needs her more than those who now survive. Evelyn is in the care of
