Evelyn Louise Kilgas Vanderhee- Affectionately known as “Lou” was born September 19, 1953 in Seymour Indiana and passed March 8, 2020 at the NM Heart Hospital from an acute illness. Lou was a Senior Special Agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration, serving 26 years in a variety of positions and locations to include overseas before retiring from the Albuquerque office in 2009. After retirement she completed her Master’s Degree in Psychology and volunteered at New Mexico Veterans Affairs Health Care System for several years. Lou’s undergraduate degree was from Valparaiso University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and Spanish. Lou enjoyed what she called her part-time employment in Old Town at Warpath Traders to support her jewelry habit and she also loved spending as much of her free time at Sandia Casino. Lou is preceded in her death by her husband: Bob Vanderhee, father: Paul Kilgas, mother: Esther Kilgas and sister: Patricia Nichter. She is survived by her daughter: Paula Vanderhee (Wen), son: John Vanderhee (Debbie), Daughter: Mary Jo Kee and nephew: Jay Nichter (Barbara). Grandchildren: Aaron and Audrey Vanderhee, Michelle and Clay Montgomery. Great Grandchildren: Crosby and Hayes Montgomery. Nieces: Emma and Abby Nichter and many close friends, the closest being Phyllis Castell, Mary Nance and Lucille Mesa.
Lou’s wishes were to be cremated and interned with her late husband Bob at Arlington National Cemetery which will be a private event for her family. However, she did hope that those she knew would celebrate her life by listening to old records, having a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer and remembering the time you spent together.
