Evelyn M. Strunk

October 21, 1923 — May 1, 2014

Strunk, Evelyn M. Evelyn Mae (Bill) Strunk was born in Easton, PA, on October 21, 1923, to Eva and William Bill, and died May 1, 2014, in Albuquerque. Creative, loving, and spirited would be good words to describe her. Art was her favorite subject in school, roller-skate dancing her favorite activity, the sky and stars her passion. After high school, she worked in a chenille factory and at the Dixie Cup during the war years. In December, 1947, she married David Strunk and left Pennsylvania to pursue the career of military wife. She was a very successful homemaker and support system for her family. She spent 34 years crisscrossing the country with her two children, following Davids travel orders and making close friends everywhere she went. Their last move was to Albuquerque in 1967. Following Moms love for the mountains and Dads love of the sea, they began a 40-year adventure of traveling all over the United States making memories with friends, grandchildren, fellow campers, and with each other.Evelyn changed her name a few years ago to Gigi, a pet name given to her by her great-grandchildren; all of which brought her huge smiles when even mentioned. In the past few years, her smile is what everyone would comment onit was infectious. We will all miss that smile, and her love for all creatures big and small, human, furry, feathery, wild or tame.Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, her brother Robert, and her husband, David. She is survived by her children Bonnie and David; grandchildren Travis and Melissa McCollum, Tiffany and Justin Tesinsky, Bryan and Whitney McCollum, and David Strunk; great-grandchildren Xander McCollum, Siena and Hudson Tesinsky, and Declyn and Lochlyn McCollum. A memorial will be held at Daniels Mortuary on Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m., and interment of Evelyn and Davids co-mingled ashes will be at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 9:45 a.m. on Monday, June 16.
