Fannie Garvis Shocklee

September 27, 1913 — January 11, 2010

Fannie Garvis Shocklee was born in Columbia County, Arkansas, September 27, 1913 to Collie Franklin and Minnie Lou Hendricks. She was the seventh child of five girls and four boys. She quit school after the ninth grade to help her parents with the family farm. Garvis, as she preferred to be called, was married to Guilford Carl Shocklee in Columbia County, Arkansas on December 24, 1933. From 1933 until 1941, they made their living farming and logging in Arkansas. In 1941, with World War II in progress, they moved to California to help with the war effort. Guilford became a welder and Garvis kept the home. During the post war years they moved extensively over the Midwest, West and Southeast, finally settling in Arizona, where Guilford died in 1976. Garvis lived in New Mexico, next door to her son, Louis and his then wife, Myrna, for years before her passing. She was surrounded as often as possible by her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. They were her treasures. She is survived by her son, Louis and Myrna, her Grandchildren, Linda and husband Lonnie Beevers, Jeffery and wife, Niomi Shocklee, Joi Stratton, the widow of deceased grandson, Jerry Shocklee, eight loving Great-Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren, one of which she never got to see in person, but the pictures made her eyes come alive. Garvis was preceded in death by her husband Guilford, her parents, Collie Franklin and Minnie Lou, four brothers and four sisters and one Grandson, Jerry Shocklee. She will be greatly missed until we all get together again. Her ashes will be buried by her husbands side in Arkansas with a small family service at gravesite. Many thanks and much appreciation go to the staff and Dr. Kompare at the Cedar Ridge Nursing Home. May God Bless you all!!
