Faye Blackwood

BLACKWOOD - Faye Blackwood, 92, died Wednesday, November 11, 2009. She was born August 8, 1917 in Delta, IL, the seventh child of ten, to parents John Harvey and Etta Ann (McCrite) Campbell. Education was important to the Campbell family and Faye began hers by attending a one-room school. She graduated from Tamms High School in IL. Faye’s love of books and reading was fostered at an early age which undoubtedly contributed to her success as a top student. After high school, Faye was a housekeeper for a local couple which turned out to be one of her happiest times during her life. Shortly after this, Faye met William Howard Blackwood in Pulaski and they were later married on July 2, 1938 in St Louis, MO. In 1953, Faye and William purchased a farm near Dongola where she and her family “summered”. During the school year, the family would return to East Alton. When William died on May 19th, 1969, life was forever changed for Faye and the children. In 1988, Faye moved to New Mexico. As part of this “new” chapter of her life, she got very involved at the Church of Christ in Espanola. Those years in Espanola turned out to be another of her happiest times. Faye is survived by her children, Gene Blackwood and wife Vickie of Alton, IL, Loretta Dippel of Sun City West, AZ, Ann Gerl and husband George of East Alton, IL, Roberta de la Rosa and husband Tito of Peralta, NM, and Ruth Blackwood of Wilton, CT. She is also survived by her “other sister”, Winnie Fravle, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren, sister Betty Miller, and brother Dean Campbell. In addition to her husband, Faye was preceded in death by her daughter Nonnie and seven siblings. Pallbearers will be Marcus de la Rosa, Matthew de la Rosa, Killian Beebe, Eddie Salazar, Beth Gerl, Michael Dippel, and Lenny de la Rosa.
