Lawrence Vernon Fenimore

July 4, 1932 — October 15, 2024

Albuquerque

Lawrence (Larry) Fenimore went to be with God on October 15, 2024, with his family by his side.

Larry was born on July 4, 1932, to William and Marie Fenimore in St. Louis, Missouri, where he spent his youth. At 17 (on a whim) he and his best friend Eddie Perez decided to join the Army. Eddie failed the physical, but Larry was off to boot camp and then Korea. In Korea, he served with the 2nd Infantry Division from August 1950 to November 1950 in defense of Pusan/Naktong Perimeter where he was injured and earned a Purple Heart. After recuperating for a year, he was sent to Sandia base in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he met his wife, Corliss Eskridge. They married in 1952 and enjoyed 72 years of marriage.

Larry served his country for 20 years in the Army in various tours of duty. Afterward, he moved to the BDM Corporation, an engineering firm, where he was in charge of their government contracts production department. After retirement, Larry and Corliss traveled the world, frequently with friends and family. Spending time with loved ones was an important part of his life. For many years the family lovingly called him “Fred Friendly”, as he thrived on meeting new people and striking up interesting conversations.

Larry stayed involved with all his military organizations including the Purple Heart Association where he served as Commander, the Korean War Veterans Association, and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed, right up to the end, the opportunity to meet with his Tuesday morning BDM retiree breakfast group and his old golfing buddies every Thursday morning at the base golf shop.

Larry is survived by his wife Corliss, sons Lawrence (Larry) William Fenimore and Mark Wendell Fenimore, daughter Cynthia Ann Fenimore, grandchildren Ryann Elaine Fenimore, Scott Adam Fenimore, Shaina Brianne Fenimore, Sean Frank Zappia, Patrick Lawrence Zappia, Ashley Alyssa Murphy, Amber Alexis Murphy, great-grandchildren Maxwell Todd Fenimore and Hunter James Zappia.

Larry was one of ten children born to his parents; six survived at childbirth. He is preceded in death by siblings William (Mickey) Fenimore, Lucille Hoffman, Margie Harrison, Kenny Fenimore, and Ruthie McCarthy.

The family would like to thank the VA staff for their tender loving care of Larry.
